To evaluate the effect of full range of motion (ROM0 on the results of TKA complication rate of full range of motion group were compared with that of limited motion group. The cases of full ROM following TKA were 110 out of total 309 cases
(35.6%)
and
the cases of limited motion were 199(64.4%), which were followed for 5.2 years in average (2 ~ 9 years). Full ROM was achieved in 31 out of 101 RA knees (30.7%) and 78 out of 196 (39.8%) OA knees and 1 out of 5 tuberculous arthiritis knees
(20.0%).
Two
Charcot joints and 5 spontaneous osteonecrosis o the femoral condyles did not achieve full ROM. The complication rates of Full ROM group and Limited ROM group were compared and analyzed statistically with chi-square test.
@ES The results were as follows;
@EN 1. There were no aseptic loosening on either group.
2. Symptomatic patellar subluxation was noted in 1 of Full ROM group and 6 Limited ROM group without significant difference between the two groups (P=0.211). Asymptomatic patellar subluxation was also noted in 7 knees of Full ROM group and 8
knees
of
Limited ROM group without significant difference between the two groups (P=0.883). And overall rat of patellar subluxation was not significantly different between the two groups (P=0.938).
3. In Full ROM group carbon induced synovitis, patella alta occurred in one case, respectively.
4. In Limited ROM group patellar tendon calcification, delayed rupture of patellar tendon and delamination of polyethylene occurred in 1,3, and 2 cases, repe3ctively.
5. Overall number of complication were 10 out of 110 knees (9.1%) of Full ROM group and 20 out of 199 knees (10.1%) of Limited ROM group with significant difference between the two groups (P=0.938).
From these observations it was suggested that full ROM might not do any harm on the prognosis of the TKA.
